Initially, Michael studied shiatsu with Yuichi Kawada, in London and Paris, and with Zen Master Reuho Yamada in San Francisco. He was then fortunate enough to spend a year learning directly from Sensei Shizuto Masunaga in Tokyo, receiving his diploma in 1979. With over 30 years of experience, Michael is the only UK teacher to have graduated from Masunaga’s school in Tokyo and brings his wealth of study and experience in Sufism, Zen and music to provide deep insight into the heart of Zen Shiatsu. Michael specializes in enhancing the power and quality of therapeutic touch in Shiatsu through a deep understanding of the ‘Five Elements’ of Traditional Chinese Medicine; working from a very strong, very deep physical level to the subtle spiritual level of the heart, he combines the elements into a holistic form, which is at once deeply satisfying and clinically effective.
